Mmmm…Summer days and horse flesh ice cream

Mmmm, nothing cools down those hot summer days like a scoop of raw horse flesh ice cream. If you thought Americans have screwed up some foods, it looks like there’s some stiff competition out there.

Raw Horseflesh Ice Cream (Basashi Aisu):We’re not horsing around with this one. There mere thought of putting raw horseflesh into ice cream may be enough to produce plenty of neigh … er, naysayers. And, rightfully so. You can get it straight from the horse’s mouth, this would have to vie for the vilest ice cream ever created. The chunks of meat inside it offer ample proof of why horseflesh is usually used in dog food. Not wanting to be a nag, this flavor needs a definite gee-up. The only saving grace is perhaps that tonight’s dessert could well have been last week’s odds-on favorite.”

Anyway, you can check out more contesting flavors here. Those with weak stomachs, beware.

And by the way, I once ate horse. It was awful, tuff and chewy. And I felt guilty later. At the time I was in an Uzbek cafe in Moscow, suffering a nasty cold, and medicating myself with vodka. Somewhere I have pictures.

Come on, the horse meat you had must be not fresh enough! You must try the proper raw horse meat in Japan! (I think it is not fair if your compare a Japanese product with the experience you had in Mosco) I love Horse sasimi as it is far sweeter and softer than beef! A thin slice chilled horse sasimi will dissolve in your mouth and taste far better than salmon or tuna sasimi! There’s no fat inside like the fish. No wasabi or soya sauce required at all! (You can tell how fresh it is by its colour, the brighter red the better! Sometimes the colour get a bit dull as it was been transport and kept frozen for a while). To be honest, I really love to try out this raw horse ice cream! Any idea where I can get it other than Japan?

  2. Thanks for the open minded info on horse meat! No idea where to get the icecream, but since it’s becoming popular on the internet, maybe it will appear elsewhere…

C’mon people! Think about what you’re eating! Do you have any freaking sense in your stupid heads?! If some little kid goes walking by your house on their little pony or horse do you think “Mmm, let’s go get the pot!” and start setting the table? That is purely repulsive. Gag.

People can eat what they want, whether they have the “sense” you think they should have or not.

Horsemeat is not purely repulsive to people who do eat and enjoy it well-prepared. And I do doubt that those people would have such wicked thinking around horses– I know that if I visit a farm, I don’t immediately think, “Those adorable baby piglets would be absolutely delicious on my plate,” even if I like bacon.

    • Of course! Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Now, put it in icecream, and raw, that just sounds not so tasty in my opinion. And any time the word “flesh” is added to the title of food, that just makes it sound worse. Raw Pig Flesh icecream would get the same reaction!
